Car Break-ins

We are still experiencing a high number of incidents involving larceny from auto. This is occurring all over uptown including "secure" parking lots. Everyone is reminded to safeguard your valuables and be vigilant for your safety and the safety of your neighbors. Please do not leave valuables in your vehicle in plain sight as this is an invitation for for a break-in. Report all suspicious activity by calling 911. Report all street light outages to Duke Energy.

National Night Out

What is National Night Out?

It's America's Night Out Against Crime!

The "24th Annual National Night Out" (NNO), a unique crime/drug prevention event sponsored by the National Association of Town Watch (NATW), has been scheduled for Tuesday, August 7, 2007. We cordially invite you and your community to be a part of our NIGHT OUT 2007 team.
Last year's National Night Out campaign involved citizens, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, neighborhood organizations and local officials from over 10,000 communities from all 50 states, U.S. territories, Canadian cities and military bases worldwide.

In all, over 34 million people participated in NNO 2006.

NATIONAL NIGHT OUT is designed to:
  • Heighten crime and drug prevention awareness;
  • Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs;
  • Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships; and
  • Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Click here to find out more about the history ofNATW and National Night Out.

Along with the traditional display of outdoor lights and front porch vigils, cities, towns and neighborhoods 'celebrate' NNO with a variety of events and activities such as:

  • block parties,
  • cookouts,
  • visits from local police and sheriff departments
  • parades, exhibits,
  • flashlight walks,
  • contests, and
  • youth programs.

NNO has proven to be an effective, inexpensive and enjoyable program to promote neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships in our fight for a safer nation. Plus, the benefits
